Founded in 1987, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish of Katoke, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is one of the parishes of the Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara, led by Bishop Monsignor Severini Niwemugizi. It is located in Western Tanzania.
Since September 3, 2024, the parish has been entrusted to the Doctrinaries with the three fathers Deus Nzambimana, Godefroid Nshimirimana and Paul Sibomana. In line with the charism of the Congregation, the fathers aim for a living pastoral care, which glorifies God through the teaching of Christian Doctrine, rooted in the Word of God and close to people’s lives.
Three points guide the life and pastoral work of the Fathers.
Catechetical training: in addition to the constant practice of Christian Doctrine in the parish, there is a Catechetical Center entrusted to the Congregation. The training lasts six months to help catechists reach the necessary level of pastoral competence. An important reference for future catechists and pastoral animators. We currently have a team of 32 catechists in training, some of whom are pictured here.
Sacramental life: the celebration and regular administration of the sacraments – masses, baptisms, weddings, etc. – thanks to the presence of three priests in the parish are a precious gift. In the photos, the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation and First Communion.
Small self-financed projects: the start of agricultural and livestock activities to support the economic needs of the Parish, the life of the Fathers and the faithful is important for the life of the Community. The environment is favorable to agriculture and livestock, but it would be necessary to dig a well to have enough water for the parish and the Catechetical center and for the people of the villages.
Our thanks must go to the Congregation that spares no effort to support the mission and to the Fathers who dedicate their heart and soul to the pastoral care of this new mission.
